FiveCurrents Wins ISEM Award for Best Opening and Closing Ceremony

FiveCurrents is proud to announce that, last week in London, the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies won the International Sports Event Management Award for Best Opening and Closing Ceremony. The ceremonies won based on their innovation within the vision and theme of the Games; their strong impact on local, national and international media; and the positive spectator experience both at the Omnilife Stadium and those viewing the broadcast.

FiveCurrents would like to thank everyone involved in bringing these ceremonies to life. The team ensured that they remained authentically Mexican and represented the rich culture and wonderful people of Guadalajara and Mexico. We couldn’t have made these ceremonies happen without every member of the team.

Opening Ceremony of the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games Receives Emmy Award

FiveCurrents production of the Opening Ceremony of the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 earns Emmy Award for costume design

15 September 2012  – Los Angeles, CA – During the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Maria Rosario Mendoza received an Emmy Award for costume design for the FiveCurrents production of the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 Opening Ceremony. The Opening Ceremony took place on 14 October 2011 at Omnilife Stadium in Guadalajara, México in front of a broadcast audience of more than 200 million people in every country across North and South America.

FiveCurrents’ President and Executive Producer Scott Givens said, “I am thrilled for Maria. Her costume designs were modern and fresh, but still paid tribute to Guadalajara’s rich heritage. They added tremendous life, beauty, color and authenticity to the Opening Ceremony, and I am proud to have the chance to work with such world-class talent.”

Maria Rosario Mendoza opened Mexican fashion house Takasami in 1980 and has been creating clothing full of the historic and artistic beauty of Mexico ever since. Mendoza is one of the preeminent fashion designers in Mexico, and with a masters degree in Mexican history and an artistic fashion flare, she brought unique perspective, artistry and skill to the project.

Upon receiving the award Maria said “I am so honored to be recognized by the Academy for my work on the Guadalajara 2011 Opening Ceremony. My goal was to represent the rich culture of my country and I would like to thank everyone involved in bringing this amazing show together.”

FiveCurrents is a mega-event production firm with production credits ranging from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting to the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies. FiveCurrents also produced the Ceremonies of the XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.

The Pan American Games is a multi-sport event between athletes from all nations in the Americas, held every four years in the year before the summer Olympic Games. Recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), the Pan American Games was established 8 August 1948 by the National Olympic Committees of the Americas.

President Clinton Announces Program for CGI Annual Meeting

President Bill Clinton has announced the program for the eighth Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to be held September 23-25 in New York City. This year’s gathering will bring together more than 1,000 CGI members and participants, including current and former heads of state, Fortune 500 CEOs, leaders from the nonprofit sector, and celebrities, to devise and implement high-impact solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

This year marks the first time that CGI will organize its largest meeting around a single theme. The 2012 Annual Meeting’s program, “Designing for Impact,” will explore how leaders can extend design thinking, often tied to startups and market-based solutions, from the private realm to accelerate positive outcomes for individuals’ lives, their environments, and their systems of government, commerce, and consumption.

“This year, our Annual Meeting will help CGI members design solutions to critical challenges such as empowering girls and women to be full participants in the global economy, encouraging the private sector to create markets for the under-served, and increasing the sustainability of our food supply as global demand doubles within the next 50 years,” said President Clinton. “We redesigned the meeting this year to optimize the creative spirit and remarkable dedication of our members, who, since 2005, have made more than 2,100 commitments that are impacting nearly 400 million lives in more than 180 countries. I look forward to the solutions and commitments that will emerge from the CGI community at this year’s meeting.”

FiveCurrents Produces Puebla Cinco De Mayo Spectacular!

On May 5, 2012, FiveCurrents produced the 150th Cinco de Mayo Celebration: "Puebla: Orgullo de Mexico." The commemorative celebration was developed for broadcast to increase awareness of Puebla as a tourist destination, and to honor the rich history and bravery of the people of Puebla. The 150th Cinco de Mayo celebration was broadcast in 21 countries to more than 300 million people worldwide.

The special was presented in three acts focusing on The Spirit of the Land, The Spirit of the People, and The Spirit of Puebla. Incorporating Mexican and indigenous history and folklore, FiveCurrents used Fort Guadalupe, where the Battle of Puebla was fought in 1862, as the backdrop for the broadcast. Capitalizing on the historic site and rich Poblano history in each act, FiveCurrents created a storyline that included a re-creation of the Battle of Puebla, a tender retelling of the Aztec legend of Popo and Ixta, and even built a life-sized, full color representation of the Puebla Cathedral covered in humanity, with more than a hundred aerial
Performers.

The president of Mexico and the governor of Puebla made moving remarks, and the show ended in a huge mast-cast number dedicated to peace, and the future of Puebla. Headline talent included Latin superstars Marc Anthony, Chayanne, Espinoza Paz, Pepe Aguilar, Maria
Jose and Lila Downs.
