FiveCurrents just successfully completed producing two live sites with Live Nation in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and is now working towards preparing for the Paralympic Games at Live City Downtown. An urban gathering place in the heart of the city at Georgia and Cambie Streets, LiveCity Downtown reopens on 12 February for the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games. A giant screen will show live coverage of the Paralympic Winter Games events as they unfold. FiveCurrents’ Chris Laue, the Creative Producer of both sites was thrilled with the positive response to Live City Vancouver during the Olympic Games and said “I hope to see fans equally excited for the upcoming Paralympic Games coverage and entertainment at Live City Downtown.”
During the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Live City Vancouver received accolades from many people in and around Vancouver, including from International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge who advised future Olympic hosts to “take note of Vancouver’s people success and create more areas, such as the city’s packed “Live Sites”, where non-ticket holders can celebrate. “It has created an ambience that is really a major lesson for other hosts,” CTV reported.
In fact, Live City was such a success that Olympic gold medallist and LOCOG chairman Sebastian Coe hopes to emulate the project during the 2012 Summer Games. He told CBC News:
“Expect to see Live City sites around London and its outskirts”, Coe said, referring to Live City Vancouver where fans could party, listen to live music and watch Olympic events on large screens. “They are dynamic place’s,” said Coe, “where all walks of life are intermingled in the name of sport and entertainment.”
