Rio de Janeiro Wins Olympic Bid

FiveCurrents is honored and thrilled to announce that Rio de Janeiro has won the distinction of hosting the first Olympic Games in South America in 2016.

This is a proud moment for all Cariocas, Brasilians, and South Americans, who will immediately begin preparations in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic Games. Through the Games, the world will have the opportunity to see the beauty, modernity, and passion of Rio de Janeiro.

“The Olympic Games belongs to all people, all continents, all humanity.” President Lula said, and continued “For the others it will be just one more Games, for us it will boost the self-esteem of Brazilians,” Lula said.

“This tremendous accomplishment could not have been achieved without the amazing effort put forth by the entire bid team,” says Scott Givens, President of FiveCurrents, Bid Consultant to Rio 2016, who produced all Rio 2016 presentations, including the Evaluation Commission visit in Rio de Janeiro and the final presentation today in Copenhagen. Givens adds, “An Olympic Games has never been held in South America. Rio is ready to welcome the world in 2016, and FiveCurrents is thrilled to be part of the Rio 2016 team.” FiveCurrents also produced the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Rio 2007 Pan American Games.

The vote, held in Copenhagen Friday, 2 October, took three rounds in whichChicago was eliminated first, followed by Tokyo, leading to a vote between Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. Brasil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral, the Mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and Presiden of the Brasilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Nuzman, all attended the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen as they united to bring the Olympic Games to Rio.

We look forward to seeing you in Rio in 2016!
