Earlier today, Executive Producer Scott Givens (left) and Associate Producer Alicia Ferreira (right) briefed close to 200 members of the Rio 2007 Ceremonies team packed inside our production tent at Maracanã Stadium on the July 13 Opening Ceremony. Building an all-Brazilian creative team and a production team that is 97 percent Brazilian is essential to making the ceremonies of the XV Pan American Games a celebration of Rio and the energy of Brazil.

Sport Features has a few nice facts on the Ceremonies of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games that FiveCurrents is producing:

7,000 artists (4,500 in the opening ceremony and 2,500 in the closing ceremony. All volunteers).

200 people in the team (staff).

300 people in the workforce.

25 choreographers, including the Brazilians like Renato Vieira, Carlota Portela and Lola Gabriel.

1,100 lights controlled by computer.

1,020 volunteers in backstage support.

Coming up with entertainment varied enough to please children of all ages is tricky, but Mark Poncher of FiveCurrents figured he was on the right track when he saw guests at both ends of the age spectrum occupied at a recent event: Dozens of kids sat quietly through an hour of speeches, and grown-ups took their turn in the bounce house.
