FiveCurrents Awarded Rio de Janeiro’s Reveillon 2010

Friday, October 16, 2009

FiveCurrents, the creative and production firm that produced the ceremonies of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games, today announced that they are producing Reveillon 2010. When two million people gather on Copacabana Beach to ring in the New Year, they will experience the first Reveillon of a new decade and one of the largest celebrations on the planet.

“We are proud and honored that we were chosen to produce Reveillon 2010,” said Scott Givens, president of FiveCurrents. “In 2010, we will revolutionize the way Cariocas celebrate the New Year with new event conception and design, a custom-designed fireworks show with an integrated sound system and music synchronization, and sophisticated audio, revolutionary stage design, and a new broadcast and simulcast design.”

Reveillon 2010 will feature headline talent, and satellite stages to distribute the party along the beach. The celebration will feature a fully integrated audio system along the length of Copacabana Beach, and a revolutionary fireworks spectacular synchronized to music. The Main Stage will be set to deliver an iconic image with the famed Sugarloaf Mountain as a backdrop.

FiveCurrents was the Executive Producer for Rio 2016’s recent successful Olympic bid, responsible for producing the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit to Rio, and all presentations, videos and creative support for the campaign. Chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Dick Ebersol said of the final presentation in Copenhagen in October, “Rio’s presentation was the best I have seen in 20 years.”

FiveCurrents is also pleased to announce that they have opened FiveCurrents Produções Criativas in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

Rio Reveling in Olympic Win

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

The people of Rio de Janeiro are still celebrating their win over Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid to host the 2016 Olympic Games. The Rio bid received many commendations including one by NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Chairman Dick Eberson who said, “Rio’s presentation was the best I have seen in 20 years.”

Forbes Magazine’s Alan Adamson wrote: “I happen to think that the folks who were in charge of the Olympics branding strategy in Rio de Janeiro did a phenomenal job of differentiating Rio’s promise from the other cities in contention, and then clearly establishing its relevance to the IOC.”

FiveCurrents is proud of its team: Executive Producer Scott Givens, Creative Director Libby Hyland, Director of Production Christopher Laue, and Producer Keith Davenport for their hard work and dedication to the bid.

Scott Givens was recently interviewed by Reuters to discuss his involvement in the bid. Here is an excerpt from that story which ran on 4 October:

“It may have been the smallest audience Scott Givens has ever had to woo but it was by far the most influential.

When the International Olympic Committee gathered to elect the winning bid for the 2016 Olympics, each of the four candidates — Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid — had 45 minutes to make their pitch to the audience of about 100 members.

Rio’s presentation, which included speeches, videos, digital maps and still photographs, was praised by seasoned observers as the best of the four and possibly the best ever seen, playing an important role in helping the Brazilian city win the Games.”

FiveCurrents Produces CGI 5th Annual Meeting

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

FiveCurrents was honored and excited to produce the Fifth Annual Meeting of The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 22-25 September in New York City. CGI welcomed a very special guest, President Barack Obama, who addressed the opening session of CGI and discussed the importance of giving. The guest list included global leaders from business, government, academia, science, religion, and non-governmental organizations, including numerous heads of state, former heads of state, CEOs of multinational corporations, and prominent philanthropists.

“I think we can say with some certainty that this model actually does work,” President Clinton said. “People don’t have to have the same politics, the same religion, or speak the same language to work together and to have an impact. We all have things to learn from each other. What we need is a shared mechanism to achieve common goals.”

The Clinton Global Initiative convenes global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Since 2005, CGI Annual Meetings have brought together more than 100 current and former heads of state, 14 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations, major philanthropists, directors of the most effective non-governmental organizations, and prominent members of the media.

FiveCurrents’ President and Executive Producer of CGI, Scott Givens, said, “The Fifth Annual Meeting brought together an unprecedented number of world leaders, once again creating a forum for participants to develop solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”

On Thursday evening, FiveCurrents produced the Clinton Global Citizen Awards, which recognizes individuals who have demonstrated visionary leadership in solving pressing global challenges. Actor and comedian Ben Stiller was the evening’s host, and GRAMMY Award winning artists Juanes and Alicia Keys both performed at the awards ceremony.

At CGI, world leaders identified critical areas for action and collaboration across a multitude of sectors, ranging from education, and energy and climate change to global health and the economic empowerment. CGI members in 2009 have made 284 new commitments valued at more than $9.4 billion dollars. In total, these commitments are projected to improve more than 200 million lives. FiveCurrents has been producing The Clinton Global Initiative since its inception in 2005 and is thankful for the privilege of working with such forward thinking leaders.

Rio Presents in Lausanne

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

The Brazilian bid for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games received a warm reception in Lausanne, Switzerland where the four finalist cities each presented their case for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games. FiveCurrents is working with the Brazilian Olympic Committee on Rio’s Olympic bid.

“The feedback that we got was very positive,” Rio bid secretary general Carlos Roberto Osorio told the Associated Press. “People really got our message. … Rio offers something new and fresh. Of the four candidates, Rio is the novelty.”

The presentation included a map of all previous Olympic Games showing dots throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, but an empty South America. Rio is hoping to host the first-ever Olympic Games in South America.

USA Today reported that “The Brazilian city emerged with the most buzz among the four cities which made presentations Wednesday to members of the International Olympic Committee, and must be considered a potential leading contender going into the final decision in Copenhagen on Oct. 2 against Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo.”

FiveCurrents and the Brazilian bid Committee, along with Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will be in Copenhagen on 2 October for the vote to determine who will host the 2016 Olympic Games.
