Rio 2007 Cauldron

uol-cauldron-image.jpgThe Cauldron of XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro was unveiled to the press today at Maracanã Stadium. Executive Producer Scott Givens from FiveCurrents worked closely with Artistic Director Rosa Magalhães on the design of the Cauldron. CO-RIO President Carlos Arthur Nuzman, the Minister of Sport Orlando Silva and Secretary General Carlos Robert Osório were at the stadium today with Scott and Rosa to talk about the innovative design and engineering of the Cauldron. The photo gallery on CO-RIO’s web site captures the Cauldron’s unique 6 diameter design of eight stainless steel petals. In UOL’s article, Silva praised the Cauldron’s design as “an impressive piece of originality.” He said the Cauldron has the “lines of the Brazilian architecture immortalized by the Niemeyer.”

The Cauldron was engineered and fabricated by FCT Flames with P+G, LiquiGas, Carvalhao Crane and Ceno Art all helping with the installation.
